It actually listens when you talk

Most language apps make you tap buttons and repeat phrases into a void. Lernix does something different: it uses its AI to listen to your pronunciation and gives you feedback on the spot. I tried it with Spanish, and after a few corrections on my rolled R’s, the app pointed out exactly where my tongue placement was off. That’s the kind of thing you’d expect from a human tutor, not a phone screen.

The speaking coach feature is the main draw here. You say a sentence, and the app scores your accuracy, fluency, and intonation. It’s not perfect—sometimes it flags a perfectly fine pronunciation—but it catches enough real mistakes to be useful. You can slow down the AI’s voice, repeat a phrase until you nail it, and compare your recording side by side. For someone like me who learns by talking out loud, this is way better than just reading flashcards.

Translations and vocab that actually stick

Beyond the speech work, Lernix packs in a translator that works across 40+ languages and a vocabulary builder that uses spaced repetition. The translator is straightforward—type or speak something, get a translation with example sentences. What surprised me was the vocab section. Instead of dumping 50 random words on you, it groups them by topic (travel, business, food) and quizzes you with multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank exercises. The AI adapts: if you keep messing up “la biblioteca,” it’ll show you that word more often until it sticks.

The app also has a “conversation mode” where you role-play scenarios like ordering coffee or checking into a hotel. The AI plays the other person, and you respond out loud. It’s a little robotic at times, but it’s decent practice for real-life situations. No pressure, no awkward silences—just you and a patient algorithm.

If you’re someone who’s tried Duolingo or Babbel but felt like you weren’t getting real speaking practice, give Lernix a shot. It’s not going to make you fluent overnight, but for 15 minutes a day of actual talking, it’s a solid tool. One tip: use it with headphones and a quiet room—the voice recognition works way better when it’s not picking up background noise.
