Bubbu School isn't just another pet game — it actually teaches you stuff

Look, I've tested a lot of kids' apps that claim to be "educational." Most of them just throw in a half-baked counting mini-game and call it a day. Bubbu School - My Virtual Pets from Bubadu is different. It's got over 50 million downloads for a reason. Your kid gets a whole virtual school full of cute animal characters, and the activities here actually feel like they were designed by someone who understands how children learn.

You start by picking a pet — there's a cat, a dog, a rabbit, a few others. Each one has its own little personality. Then you walk them through a school day. The drawing lessons are the standout feature. Your pet holds a pencil, and you trace shapes and letters on screen. It's simple, but it builds fine motor skills without feeling like homework. The music section is equally solid. You tap colored notes to play simple songs on a piano, xylophone, or drums. My six-year-old spent twenty minutes just messing around with the melody maker, and that's twenty minutes she wasn't watching YouTube.

There's more than just art and music though. You feed your pet, brush its teeth, put it to bed — basic virtual pet stuff. But the school setting gives everything a purpose. You earn stars for completing lessons, and those stars unlock new outfits and rooms. It's a loop that works. The mini-games between classes are decent too: matching pairs, simple puzzles, a memory card game. Nothing groundbreaking, but they're varied enough to keep a 6-12 year old engaged for a solid session.

Is it perfect? No. The ads are a bit aggressive for a paid app — you'll get a video ad every few activities unless you buy the ad-free version. And some of the voice acting is a little grating after the tenth time. But the core gameplay is solid, the educational value is real, and the pets are genuinely charming. Your kid will learn basic drawing techniques, music theory fundamentals, and a little bit about responsibility. All while petting a cartoon cat.

If your child is into animals and you want something that's more than a mindless tap-fest, this is a good pick. One tip: turn off the sound effects in the settings menu. Trust me on this one.
